Draft standard — public consultation
Corrections
How errors will be fixed openly, and how to ask for a correction.
- Version
- Version 0.1
- Updated
- This page describes intended practice. It is not a statement that the system is operational.
- Subject to Kenyan legal, editorial and source-security review.
Requesting a factual correction
Once a managed contact channel exists, anyone will be able to request a correction by identifying the record, the specific statement and the evidence that it is wrong. No channel is open yet.
Correction, clarification, update and removal
- Correction: a factual error is fixed.
- Clarification: accurate wording that could mislead is made clearer.
- Update: new information or a later response is added.
- Removal: a record or part of it is taken down, for example where it is unsupported or creates a serious safety risk.
Visible revision history
Every change will be dated and explained in the record's revision history. Earlier versions will not be silently rewritten.
Escalation and appeal
If a request is refused, it can be appealed to reviewers who were not involved in the original decision. The outcome and reasons will be recorded.
Immediate safety risks
Where a record creates an immediate risk to someone's safety, the relevant part will be hidden first and reviewed afterwards.
Pressure does not decide outcomes
Popularity, public campaigns or political pressure will not determine whether a correction is made. Only evidence will.
